September 25, 2018: In a show of strength, IYFT – Youth wing of indigenous regional Party held a rally and latter leaders addressed a public meeting today at Dukmali area in Khumulwng in West Tripura District. Sources said, activists of IYFT raised slogans in support of introduction of NRC and Inner line permit in Tripura. They also demanded withdrawal of Citizenship Amendment Bill-2016.
“Introduction of NRC based on 1951 in Tripura is our one of the prime demands while we are demanding introduction of Inner Line Permit for a long time”, said an IYFT activist. Despite scorching heat followed by a smart shower, attendance of youth, particularly womenfolk is noticeable.
Party sources said, tribal people are realizing that separate demand for Twipraland is not feasible, hence feeling deceived by IPFT leaders, youths are now inclining towards INPT”.
After the rally, president of INPT Vijoy Hrankhawl, secretary Jagadish Debbarma, IYFT president Jammu Debbarma and other leaders spoke in support of the demands. In his speech, Vijoy Hrankhawl said, demand for NRC is a constitutional demand – and INPT will keep on fighting for the demand.
INPT which lost the last Assembly election miserably, is trying to consolidate its base before ensuing Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls. INPT’s rival IPFT – with spectacular performance during Assembly Polls and being a partner in coalition Government – is wielding its influence among the tribal communities in hill areas. Moreover, IPFT’s demand for separate Twipraland has attracted attention of young tribal people. Under such situation, INPT is attempting make a come back. With an impressive rally and public meeting, leaders are hopeful and stressed need to strengthen youth organization further.
