October 02, 2018 : Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb praised the Tripura University for its steady strides towards excellence and assured all support from the state government in its future endeavours.
Chief Minister who inaugurated the 31st Foundation Day of the Tripura University and Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birth Centenary Celebration in a fully packed Maharaja Bir Bikram Auditorium of the varsity in Suryamaninagar today in presence of Chief Guest of the programme Justice of Bombay High Court Amba Das Joshi, Vice Chancellor Dr V L Dharurkar and Registrar Sanit Deb Roy, said he would also look into the demand of the Tripura University for land in Suryamaninagar for setting up of Khadi Gramodyog centers. The assurance came following Vice Chancellor Dr Dharurkar’s proposal that the varsity was keen to set up and run a Khadi Gramodyog centres to give a boost to the rural economy. Dr Dharurkar proposed to set up Khadi spinning centres- at least 100 of its kind by next year in the land found available near the varsity.
“I shall definitely look into the proposal and discuss with Revenue Minister the matter relating to the land requirement. This is a great proposal and I am happy that it has come on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary”, said the Chief Minister.
While discussing extensively on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pro people and pro education policies Chief Minister said imparting proper education should start from the beginning –at the childhood of the student. He praised the Angnawadi workers of the state for extending their services in this regard.
“The Anganwadi workers are no less important in our educational system than the professors of the University. Their role in raising and preparing a child for future is as crucial, or, perhaps, more crucial than the college or University teachers”, Deb observed.
He expressed his satisfaction at the way Tripura University had been making marks in various fields and extending its academic and other activities in different fields.
“I believe under the leadership of present Vice Chancellor Dr V L Dharurkar Tripura University will reach its pinnacle and will be a part and parcel of entire state’s marching towards development”, said the Chief Minister adding that one day Tripura would also be compared with places like Pune.
Chief Guest of the programme Justice Amba Das Joshi who is also chairperson of Maharastra Administrative Tribunal, in his speech exhorted the teachers to inculcate among the students confidence and help them develop their inner strength and abilities.
Justice Joshi also dwelt on Mahatma Gandhi and his concept of Ahimsa and relevance in the nation building.
Vice Chancellor Dr Dharurkar in his brief but powerful speech at the beginning welcomed all on the special day -31st Foundation Day of the Tripura University which also coincided with the birth day of Mahatma Gandhi. Dr Dharurkar gave an idea about his vision about the future role of the Tripura University and as to how it would join in the nation building.
“The university was set up in 1987 and it became a Central University in 2007. When the university started its journey there were only 1000 students, now there are 3000 students and 45 departments”, he informed the gathering.
“Today the 31st Foundation Day is going to be a turning point for the University. We are standing on a cross road”, he said and then requested the Chief Minister to hand over the Khadi Gramodyog activities to the Tripura University and provide land on lease so that by next year at least 100 spinning centres for Khadi could be set up here.
Respected Registrar of the University Sanit Deb Roy on the occasion of the 31st Foundation Day gave details of the achievements of the university , especially during the last one year and new projects that were launched after Dr Dharurkar took over charge as the Vice Chancellor.
Three departments of the University were also awarded for their display and activities during the ‘Open Day’ on the occasion of Foundation Day. While Molecular Biology and Bio Informatics department got the first prize, Department of Physical Education and Commerce Department got the second and third prize respectively. The awards were handed over by the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Justice Amba Das Joshi and Vice Chancellor Dr V L Dharurkar.
The programme started with a Pledge to make an Addiction Free Tripura as envisaged by the Chief Minister. The pledge was administered by Prof Arobindo Mahato.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor Dr V L Dharurkar and Justice Amba Das Joshi hoisted the flag in the varsity to mark the Foundation Day celebration.
