In Manipur, relief operations are continuing in the areas affected by the recent earth-quake. Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force are working in Tamenglong and Imphal which had been affected most by the tremor of Monday last.

State Disaster Response Force, Manipur Police, paramilitary forces and voluntary organizations are also helping in the relief operations. One combined team of the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force of Manipur is moving to Kabui Kullen Village from Noney in Tamenglong District this morning. The epicenter of the jolt of Monday last was located at the village, about 17 Kilometres away to the north from Noney.

Manipur Chief Secretary Oinam Nabakishore Singh told AIR News that one team of experts is arriving Imphal on Thursday to look into the conditions of damaged constructions in the high intensity tremor.

It may be mentioned that many public and private buildings including two main markets of Khwairamband Bazar at the heart of state capital Imphal and some market complexes in Imphal East, Bishnupur and Thoubal Districts and many government buildings in Tamenglong District have been partially damaged in the tremor and many people have been rendered homeless in Tamenglong District. Manipur Government has sanctioned two crore rupees to compensate earthquake victims and requested the Centre to provide Rs 20 crore as relief and rehabilitation package for the quake victims.
