The Public Accounts Committee of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly recently conducted an inspection of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme after experts found the pH level of water to be 5.7 and declared the water acidic and unsafe for human consumption. The member of the committee and MLA Paul Lyngdoh said that during their visit to the site, two samples of water was tested and it was found to be fit for human consumption, reports AIR News. During the inspection, the committee also asked the PHE department to install necessary equipment at the water supply within a month and ensure that all measures are taken to supply safe water to the people of Shillong. The inspection team also comprised of officials from the Health and PHE department besides experts from Pasteur Institute, Shillong.
