Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang today led the 12th South Asian Games, SAG 2016 Torch Relay, which began from the T. T. Stadium, Kohima culminated at the Kohima Local Ground. The Nagaland Department of Sports and Youth Resources organized the programme to receive the visiting team led by Dean and Professor Biswajit Basumatary from National Institute of Physical Education, North East Regional Center, Guwahati.
Prof Basumatary informed the SAG 2016 Torch Relay which arrived in Guwahati on January 28 has passed through Tripura, Mizoram and Sikkim and from Nagaland the relay will proceed to Arunachal Pradesh and other North Eastern states to create awareness about sports.
Prof. Basumatary said the entire North Eastern Region has incredible talents, but due to lack of exposure, they were unable to shine in the states, regional, national and international level. He also informed that a good number of youths of NER will get opportunities to compete with other South Asian National players. Nagaland Commissioner and Secretary for Sports and Youth Resources Menukhol John offered the vote of thanks at the programme.
