Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh laid emphasis upon using solar energy Charkha for more employment and more income by the artisans in Agartala, Tripura on Tuesday. He said solar Charkha model will generate employment for 5 crore rural people all over the country. The pilot project has already been introduced in 6 zones of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Program (PMEGP).
He was addressing a gathering after visiting a bee keeping and processing centre of KVIC at Agartala today. Union Minister Giriraj Singh asserted on building awareness bringing together the artisans, KVIC and banks on a single platform for sustainability of the solar charkha project. He said use of solar charkha will help elder women too, adding that it will reduce production cost and enhance production and income. It has been studied that an artisan could earn Rs. 6000 to Rs. 9000 per month as against about Rs. 1500-2000 using hand loom, the Minister said.
He said daily production of yarn will go up to 8 kg per day with the 32 spindles solar charkha, whereas existing model yields only 400 gm per day. The Minister said he has visited the bee processing centre here and took grasp of the functioning of the unit and variety of bees reared. The Centre and State will later adopt a sustainable plan on it, he told media persons.
