BJP on Saturday accused Congress of levelling baseless allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Gujarat land deal issue to hide its own corruption. Party Secretary Shrikant Sharma said the opposition party has no moral right to talk on graft issue as its top leaders including Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are allegedly involved in corruption.
He asserted that land allotments made in Gujarat in 2010 during Mr. Modi’s Chief Ministership were done as per law and through a transparent process. Mr. Sharma said anti-development Congress is unable to digest the progress under the NDA government and creating conditions ahead of the Budget session to stall Parliament.
Earlier in the day, Congress alleged that there were irregularities in the allotments of public land and forest land during Mr. Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister. Talking to reporters, party leader Anand Sharma had demanded Supreme Court monitored SIT probe into the matter.
Meanwhile, Anar Patel, daughter of Chief Minister Anandiben Patel denied doing any anything wrong in the land deal. In a Facebook post, Ms. Patel said she is neither a director nor a share holder in the company which purportedly got the land. Anar Patel is in the centre of a row over land allotment to companies with close business links to her.
In 2010, state government reportedly allotted 250 acres of land next to Gir Lion Sanctuary to a private company at throw away prices for setting up a resort.
