Agartala, September 29, 2019: Rumors of child lifting have become a major headache for local civil and police administration of Churaibari under North District in Tripura.
Only recently, series of thefts rattled nerves of administration and local inhabitants of Churaibari – even as dusts are yet to be settled completely, rumors of child lifting are creating serious disturbances and posinga big challenge.
Already two persons fell victim to such rumors, however, timely intervention of Police saved the two helpless persons from the clutches of angry mob and saved their lives.
Sources said, local inhabitants of Palpara under Kadamtala detained one Md Mojammil (40) on suspicion of child lifting. Mojammil – resident of Meerut of Uttar Pradesh – came to Kadamtala relating to blanket selling. As an suspicious mob surrounded the person, Beat Police intervened and rescued Mojammil.
Earlier, on September 27 last, one Kanchan Karmakar (35) was thrashed by local persons at Kadamtala bazaar on suspicion of being a child lifter. In this case also, Police reached the spot timely and rescued the person.
Police have made several appeals to people to desist from spreading rumors – however, prevailing situation seems to be susceptible to any untoward incident, local sources alleged.
