Agartala, October 10, 2019: Goons brutally attacked an Editor of local electronic news channel on Wednesday night and left him with head injuries. Allegedly, miscreants led by local mafia Bappa unleashed assaults on Sourajit Paul – Editor of News Today channel and a member of Agartala Press club. However, no one was arrested so far.
In the attack, Paul sustained serious head injuries and needed six stitches. The incident occurred at Dasgamighat area in Agartala on Wednesday night. It is alleged, the goons were carrying firearms.
A press release from the News Today stated that cash money and a golden chain were snatched away from the Editor during the attack. When the locals noticed the incident, they rescued and shifted the injured person to IGM hospital. He was today referred to ILS hospital for better treatment.
Though, an FIR was lodged at West Agartala police station in this regard, no arrest was made till the last information came in. The entire media fraternity including Agartala Press Club and Tripura Journalists’ Union strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Agartala Press Club met the ADGP (Law and Order) today. They expressed serious concern over the incident and demanded stern action against the culprits.
