Agartala, October 18, 2019: Ex-PWD Minister and top CPI-M leader of Tripura, Badal Choudhury accused in alleged more than Rs 600 crore PWD scam, remained elusive till the report filing – even as Police launched massive search operations in the city and its periphery. His lawyers submitted bail plea in High Court of Tripura today and it will be heard on Monday next.
Search for Choudhury started two-day back immediately after district and session court rejected Choudhury’s anticipatory bail plea. Speculation was rife that Choudhury arrested soon. However he successfully evaded police net, so far and remained untraceable.
As part of massive hunt for Choudhury, Police fanned out in several areas in Agartala. However, all efforts by police to trace Badal Choudhury came a cropper, till report filing. Large contingent of security personnel were patrolling near CPI-M head quarters.
Meanwhile, with glaring Police failure in tracing Choudhury, SP of West district, Ajit Pratap Singh was suspended while DIG Arindam Nath was transferred last night and attached to Police HQ.
Manik Das took over the charges of SP West while Soumitra Dhar as DIG. Soon, new team of Police reviewed emergent situation today and took necessary action to find out Badal Choudhury, however, series of searches at different City areas probed to be futile, at least till the report filing.
Meanwhile, a group of lawyers filed bail plea in High Court of Tripura today and the plea will be heard on Monday. A single bench of Justice Arindam Lodh will hear the plea. As the plea will be heard on Monday, Police still have two days to save the face and Police is leaving no stone unturned to get hold of Choudhury. Despite all the hard works of Police, Choudhury remained elusive till tonight. It remains to be seen as to whether Police can trace Choudhury before his bail plea is heard in the High Court.
In another move, administration suspended OC of West Police station, DP Roy today reportedly due to poor performance in investigating Badal Choudhury case and OC Subrata Chakraborty will take charge of West PS. Three constables were also suspended for dereliction of duty on the same case.
