Agartala, October 30, 2019: Kadamtala Police registered first-ever case in Tripura under Instant Triple Talaq law against four persons after one Salema Begum lodged a complaint against her husband.
Based on the complaint, Police lodged case against Salema’s husband Abul Hussain and Abul’s father, mother and sister. The accused were booked under Muslim Woman (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.
Detailing about the incident, local sources said, Abul Hussain – who is staying at Saudi Arab – sent a whatsapp message to Salema on October 27 last writing ‘Talaq’ three times and terminated the marriage. Abul of Jalaibari area under Kadamtala PS in North Tripura married Salema Begum of Kurti village under Bazarichhera in Karimganj district of Assam in 2015. After receiving the message, salema mustard courage to go to Police and narrate her plights. Police booked her husband and in-laws and started investigation
The case is unique in the sense that it was the first ever case filed against Instant Triple Talaq through message after the Central government announced it a criminal offence.
Speaking on the issue, OC of Kadamtala PS Krishnadhan Sarkar said, investigation against the booked persons have been initiated.
