New Delhi, February 25, 2020 (IANS) After two days of rampant violence in northeast Delhi, a shoot-at-sight order has been issued in the affected areas, police sources said on Tuesday.
According to sources in Delhi Police’s north-east district department, the shoot-at-sight order was announced in Yamuna Vihar area.
CBSE exams on Feb 26 in northeast Delhi postponed
Following a series of violent clashes between pro and anti-CAA protestors, the CBSE has decided to postpone the board exams for Class 10 and 12 scheduled for February 26 in violence-affected northeast Delhi.
The decision comes after request by Directorate of Education and the government of Delhi who raised concerns over the exams being held amid tension in the region.
“Based on the request of the Directorate of Education and the government of Delhi and to avoid inconvenience to the students, staff and parents, the board has decided to postpone the exams scheduled for February, 26, 2020 in northeast Delhi,” CBSE said in a statement.
The examinations of English Communicative, and English Language and Literature for class 10 have been postponed while exams for Web Application (Old), Web Application (New) and Media have been postponed for class 12.
There are a total of 86 examination centres in northeast Delhi.
Earlier the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia announced that all private and government schools in violence-affected Northeast Delhi will remained closed on Wednesday.
Sisodia, also the Delhi Education Minister, said all internal examinations have been postponed by schools.
Violence in NorthEast Delhi
Several localities, including Chand Bagh, Bhajanpura, Maujpur-Babarpur, and Jafrabad witnessed violence as pro- and anti-CAA protesters clashed.
Several incidents of firing by protestors as well as security forces were reported on Monday and Tuesday, as well as frequent instances of stone pelting and vandalism.
At least 13 have lost their lives during the clashes, while over a 186 others have incurred injuries during the riots.
Earlier in the day, the Union Home Ministry appointed senior IPS officer S.N. Srivastava the Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) to contain the law and order crisis in the national capital as it found that the serving officers were unable to control the situation which was deteriorating by the day.
