For holistic growth of indigenous communities, harness education system, expedite Ekalabya Residential Model School construction, Fill up Kokborok teachers’ posts: Tripura CM

Agartala, March 02, 2020: Tripura Government stressed on harnessing education system in indigenous people dominated areas and expediting implementation of welfare programmes for holistic development for indigenous communities of the State,. Notably, there are 19 indigenous communities living in Tripura and State Government is working to ensure socio-economic development of these people.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has on Monday reviewed various works meant for overall development of ADC areas.
He asked the departments associating the socio-economic growth of indigenous people to work with specific targets.
The Chief Minister chaired the review meet of Tribal Advisory Committee and said if any problem appears in case of implementing any work, the matter has to be solved in consultation with the elected people’s representatives of respective areas.
CM stresses on Education system
He also directed the secretary of School Education department to look after the matter related to filling up of vacant posts of Kokborok subject teachers. The Chief Minister was informed in the meeting that the students were bring imparted education on Kokborok language as first subject in 91 Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Schools of ADC areas.
The Chief Minister held threadbare discussion for posting of sufficient teachers in the schools fall under ADC areas.
Ekalabya Model Residential School
While reviewing various projects of Tribal welfare, the Chief Minister asked the officials concerned to complete identification of land for setting up of Ekalabya Model Residential Schools and give priority to the lands already identified in government’s landbank.
He also directed the officials to specify family income for admission of students in Ekalabya Residential Model Schools.
Meanwhile, the latest status of construction of 18 Ekalabya Residential Model Schools approved by the central government in 2018-19 was discussed in the meeting.
In 2019-20, the Union Ministry for Tribal Welfare approved four Ekalabya Residential Model Schools to be set up under Karbook, Mungiakami, Hezamara and Rupaichari blocks. The Chief Minister was informed in the meeting that the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) had taken initiatives to set up the four proposed schools.
The agendas of Tribal Advisory Committee’s last meeting held on October 9, 2017 were discussed in today’s review meeting.
The officials concerned presented the initiatives taken for improving the socio-economic status of Patta holders and the government assistance provided to the indigenous families.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma, Tribal Welfare minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia, Social Education and Social Welfare minister Santana Chakma, Chief Executive Member of TTAADC Radhacharan Debbarma and Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar along with other officials also attended the review meeting.
