No positive coronavirus case in Tripura, North East so far. Govt shuts all academic Institutions, says ‘no’ to mass gathering, High Court issues notification.

Agartala, March 16, 2020: Even as there is no positive coronavirus case in Tripura, State Government today issued a directive shutting down all academic institutions and other places of mass gathering. The Government directive said that all schools and colleges, cinema halls, swimming pools, and gymnasiums in the state shall remain closed till March 31. However, the Standard 10th and 12th board exams will take place as per the schedule. Tripura Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar told media, “Anganwadi Centers would also remain closed till March 31 from tomorrow, but the SNP food would be provided to the guardians as ‘take-home rations’.
Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar told reporters, “So far, 78 passengers have already completed the observation period. Only 2 passengers were hospitalized and samples were tested. Both the samples have been found negative. It means, there is no detected case of Corona Virus in the state, for that matter, in the North East so far”.

“The Coronavirus has emerged as a big threat in the international arena. And, the matter has also become very important and sensitive in nature. Thus, we have decided to close all our institutions, government, private, government-aided schools and colleges, Universities till March 31 next. The decision is officially conveyed to all the concerned authorities by today itself”, he said.
“This is the time to table the budget in almost all the states and we have adjourned the second stage of the budget from BAC. Some other states like West Bengal have also done the same”, Nath added. The state government also directed all its departments and private institutions in the state to stop the use of biometric attendance systems till March 31 to prevent the spread of the disease.
“In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, all offices in the state government including schools are directed to stop the use of Biometric Attendance Systems where physical contact is required with the system of attendance”, said an official.
Govt says ‘no’ to mass gathering, HC issues notification
The State government today ordered the shutting down of public meetings and all other mass gathering events across the state till April 15. It has asked all the District Magistrates to impose Section 144 of CrPC if necessary to avoid mass gatherings in view of the coronavirus threat, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar told reporters. “Another advisory has been issued for minimizing unnecessary travels particularly foreign travels, social functions, fairs and festivals till April 15”, Kumar said. The same would be the system for the new mothers and the expectant women. Meanwhile, a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs directed all types of passenger movements through immigration Land Check Posts (LCP) located on Indo-Bangla border, Indo-Nepal border and Indo-Myanmar border to be suspended from March 15, 2020.
High Court of Tripura issued a notification stating that during the period from March 17 and April 5 2020 – and only freshly instituted matters along with urgent cases, if any shall be listed before the High Court. “However, if any party is desirous of listing his/her case before the Court on the date so fixed, the same may be mentioned before the Bench having the roster”, Registrar (Judicial) V Pandey mentioned in the notification. Notably, the functioning of the High Court has already been restricted to urgent matters only.
