Struggling against multiple odds, they excelled in Madhyamik exams and brought cheers for their school teachers and villagers. Tumpa Debnath and Tanushree Debnath of Uttar Brajapur High School of Bishalgarh under Sepahijala district in Tripura scored 404 and 402 marks respectively in TBSE conducted Madhymik exams this year. While Tumpa topped in her school, Tanushree – battling against stark poverty – proved that obstacles could be won by grit and determination.

“Tanushree comes from a financially weak family – her father is a daily wage earner. Her family could not afford to pay for private tutors. In fact, she had no except one private tutor for English subject. She studied by herself and scored 402 marks. Both Tumpa and Tanushree made all of us happy and proud”, one of the villagers said.

Speaking to media, Tanushree said, she wants to study Science at Bishalgarh HS (+2) School – however, her big worry is her poverty.

Meanwhile, total 37 students appeared in Madhyamik exams this year and out of them, 26 students have passed the exam.

Even as these two girls did not feature in merit list, their successes have been hailed by many due to their sincere desire and hard works to overcome hindrances. “Studying in a rural area School, both of them were deprived of modern facilities and so called specialized guidance. But with the help of their school teachers, these students scored high marks. Credit goes to the dedication of school teachers who guided them as well as their own diligence”, villagers said in chorus.
