Activists of ruling BJP, once again, held demonstration against Police personnel at Baikhora PS in South Tripura District on Friday. They also demanded suspension of Police personnel allegedly for misbehaving with people. On August 20, BJP supporters demanded punitive actions against Police personnel of Bishalgarh after a clash between Congress and BJP.
After Bishalgarh, BJP supporters of Muhuripur in South district gheraoed the Baikhora PS today. On behalf of the agitating saffron leaders, local BJP leader Ashesh Baidya alleged, second officer of Baikhora PS Gopal Shukla Das, constable Debabrata Das and one TSR jawan Bimal Bhowmik went to Muhuripur Bazar last night and misbehaved public representatives and common people.
“All the three persons got job during Left regime for supporting CPI-M. Maintaining their loyalty for leftists, they are trying to defame the ruling party and acting accordingly”, Baidya alleged told media.
He also said, “We are demanding suspension of all the three Police personnel”.
During the gherao agitation, a BJP delegation led by Baidya met SDPO Nirupam Dutta and placed their demand for suspension of the Police personnel. The members also warned that they would move to higher authority if their demand remains unfulfilled.
Agitation against Police at Baikhora came within one day after almost 6-hour long demonstration at Bishalgarh PS. BJP supporters vented anger against Police after a clash with Congress in which around 20 persons of both parties were injured. Some of local BJP leaders were also injured. Police lathi charged to disperse the violent party supporters – this irked BJP workers. BJP leaders alleged, Police thrashed BJP supporters only leaving Congress supporters.
Anger against Police action led to almost 6-hour long mayhem during which the NH remained blocked and Bishalgarh Police station remained gheraoed. After hectic initiative by MP Pratima Bhoumik, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and top Police officials, things apparently became normal. However, normalcy did not last for long as three petrol bombs were hurled by some unidentified miscreants at the house of a CPI-M supporter.
Without taking any further chances, Police immediately deployed CRPF jawans to quell tension.
Two incidences of resentment against Police by ruling Party supporters have grabbed attention of common people and media.
