Even as the Health administration of Tripura is receiving heavy criticisms from all around, Education Minister has come out with another innovative idea which if implemented, will be a unique instance. For last weeks, GB Hospital of Agartala is hitting news headline for wrong reasons almost regularly as several allegations of negligence and careless attitude of health personnel, non-availability of proper treatment and medication were raised by Covid19 patients and their relatives. Recently, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb visited the Hospital and made several recommendations to improve health care delivery system.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath has come out with a noble idea. To ensure effective health administration, he prescribed sending of cabinet ministers to GB hospital for some days’ stay. The idea was mooted by the Minister ostensibly for on spot monitoring and review of the Covid 19 treatment exercise.
“If necessity emerges, ministers of Tripura cabinet will stay in GBP hospital Agartala to ensure that no irregularities in the state’s biggest and only Covid care hospital take place”, said Ratan Lal Nath.
Talking about poor health care facilities at GB Hospital, Nath was also overtly critical at the way doctors and other staffs at GB Hospital were failing to serve satisfactorily.
“Despite being the only health care facility of its kind for the critical Covid care patients, the hospital for the last couple of days remained the talk of the town for reports of irregularities”, he pointed out.
Speaking to media at the Civil secretariat in Agartala, the Minister said, there is no room for denial to the fact that every death is unfortunate. However, death due to negligence and irresponsible acts is unacceptable. The sole motive of the government is to get rid of the irregularities and emerging problems in GBP hospital right now, Ratan added.
“Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on September 2 visited GBP hospital to understand the problems. He had interacted with people from every section of the employees present there. It was quite necessary to visit the hospital at this juncture as widespread allegations were being raised against the hospital staff and doctors unlike other Covid care facilities such as Bhagat Singh and Hapania where a friendly coordination between the administration and doctors smoothened the treatment process”, Nath told reporters.
During the Chief Minister’s visit, he said, he had clearly told the doctors and other staff that the government would not tolerate any kind of irresponsible act at this sensitive time. Any death due to negligence would invite dire consequences on being proved. However, he had also requested them to strengthen coordination between the employees to put up a united fight against the Covid 19, added Nath.
According to Nath, there is no dearth of logistic support and protective gears for the frontline warriors. Adequate number of disposable gloves, N95 masks and necessary medicines are being provided to the doctors.
