MP Pratima Bhowmik on Saturday smelt ‘conspiracy’ in the entire incident of sudden oxygen cri- sis that hit GBP hospital Agartala late on Friday night and claimed that it was still a mystery as to how a handful of people had fixed the issue without taking it into the confidence the higher authorities.
The MP while briefing the media, sought to term the whole sequence of incidents as a part of a well orchestrated plot. Pratima, however, directed MS GB to commission an internal inquiry to trace the people who had extended support to them. A government level inquiry would be also ordered very shortly, later confirmed to this newspaper. “This is quite surprising. All on a sudden, the oxygen supply in the NTH2 building dropped to zero. Some people who are neither associated with GBP hospital nor even entitled to interfere in the internal matters of the hospital, come into action and then everything gets sorted out.
On the other hand, those who are really in the job – our MS, higher officials – know nothing related to the incident. The chain of events are itself enough to explain the whole incident”, the MP told the reporters. Countering the allegations raised by BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman relating to a dearth of skilled manpower to maintain the machineries, she said, “There is no shortage of technicians in our hospital.
But, at that particular time, when the plan was about to be executed, the oxygen operators at the manifold room had been shifted. It is quite evident that some people from the inside instructed them to leave or so. An internal inquiry which is slated to be commissioned very shortly will surely clear all the doubts”, Pratima said. To a specific question the MP said, “Those who have come here have taken no permission. And, the way they are trying to justify their visit is not fitting to their own narrative. The reading of the oxygen meter can only show “00” as reading when the lever will be pulled down to the lowest possible position.
Otherwise, it cannot drop to ‘0’. They are trying to show that they have adjusted the faulty lever but in reality they have pulled it down and then tried to establish themselves as saviors. But, the otherwise, picture is that they have intentionally tried to create chaos, which may have claimed many lives”. Bhowmik, however, also later said the MS GBP hospital had moved to the government with a request to order a parallel inquiry by the government. An inquiry committee has been constituted that includes Subhasis Das, Samarpita Datta and few other doctors to probe the matter. (Courtesy: Tripura Times)
