Sabri banana aka Martaman banana has been declared as the ‘Fruit of Unakoti District’ in Tripura. Unakoti Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das said this on Thursday.
As per the decision of the Tripura Government, horticulture sector has been given importance, especially in achieving the target of doubling farmers income. As part of giving a boost to horti sector, State Government decided to announce one Fruit as the ‘ Fruit of a District’. In accordance with the decision each of eight districts of Tripura would announce a fruit as the fruit of that particular district.
To this end, Unakoti district has decided to pick up Sabri banana due to its comparative advantages, sources said.
On Thursday, a meeting was held at Unakoti Zilla Parishad office in presence of secretary of State Agriculture department CK Jamatia and other dignitaries including District Magistrate Tapas Roy.
In the meeting, it was decided to consider Sabri banana as the ‘Fruit of Unakoti District’. Assistant Sabhadhipati of the Zilla Parishad Shyamal Das said, State Agriculture Department will provide adequate agri-instruments to farmers to harness their capacities.
The meeting also emphasized on various steps and strategies to double farmers earnings within 2022.
