Parents of Medical student of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), Adarsha De outright rejected that Adarsha committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room – and alleged it was a murder. After lodging a Police case, shocked and shattered family members demanded fair investigation into the matter.

Notably, a brilliant medical student of 9th Semester of AGMC, Adarsha was found hanging in his hostel room on Monday evening. Adarsha – a topper in HS +2 exam – hailed from Belonia.

While Adarsh’s father Ashok De refused to accept that his son had committed suicide and alleged it was a murder, Deputy Leader of the Opposition and senior CPIM leader Badal Choudhury – also from Belonia sub-division – demanded a high level investigation to find the truth behind the tragic end of a brilliant student. “Considering the gravity of the situation, a high level probe must be conducted”, Choudhury said.

Speaking to media, Ashok De, father of the deceased student, said, “There were no signs of hanging on the body of Adarsha. I still cannot believe that he is not with us anymore”.

Here, it may be noted that after his batch mates found Adarsha hanging, they brought him down and took him GBP Hospital which is in the same complex and tried in vain to revive him.

However, Adarsha’s father raised a question on the right of anyone in bringing down the hanging body. He argued, “Even if Adarsha had hanged himself, there were no rights for anyone to bring the deceased down. Only the police in the presence of the family members have the right to recover the body”.

Meanwhile, Police sources said, an unnatural death case has been registered soon after the incident was reported. Later, a family member of the deceased filed a case claiming it was a murder. As of now, the autopsy has been completed and investigation is underway”.

A pall of gloom descended in AGMC and GBP Hospital, as batch mates bid adieu to Adarsha. As his mortal remains reached his house in Belonia, large number of people with teary eyes assembled to bid farewell to the meritorious son of the soil. “It is a sad day for all of us. His teachers, friends, neighbours – all gathered here. It’s shocking, we have lost a jewel”, said one of his neighbours,
