Former Minister and CPIM MLA Ratan Bhowmik was attacked by miscreants on Tuesday when he went to visit an ailing party activist at Shilghati ADC village under his own constituency in Sepahijala district of Tripura. Miscreants vandalized his car, however, local people thwarted the attack and saved the MLA from the violent attackers.
According to the CPIM, as soon as the MLA entered the residence of the party workers which falls under the Assembly constituency of Bhowmik, a group of miscreants launched a violent attack on him. The vehicle that was parked in front of the party worker’s residence was also damaged and keys of the car were snatched.
The miscreants riding on motor cycles created mayhem and also asked the MLA to go back. Sensing trouble for the MLA, the locals of the area came out and rescued Ratan Bhowmik from being physically harmed.
CPIM sources said, miscreants had attacked Ratan Bhowmik, so far, six times during last 34 months of BJP regime. CPIM also alleged, attack on a MLA in his own constituency reflect that there is no rule of law in the State.
Kakraban police station was also informed and the arrival of the police restored peace in the area. The local people escorted the MLA until he reached the safe zone.
Later, Bhowmik briefed the media at the party’s Udaipur office and condemned the incident. He said, “Such attacks will not distance people from CPM and people will continue to support the Leftists”. As per information till filling the report, the keys are yet to be recovered and Bhowmik’s personal guard and driver are still in the spot of occurrence.
However, BJP Gomati district secretary Abhisek Deb Roy said BJP workers were not involved in the attack and attributed the incident as fall out internal resentment of CPIM.
