Deputy Director Food and Civil Supplies department Tripura had lodged an FIR against a Guwahati based Co-operative society for supplying stale sugar to Tripura. The FIR had been filed with AD Nagar police station, SDPO Amtali Anirban Das said.
The matter came into light after a surprise visit of FCI experts in the MARKFED run go-down at Keshab Sangha in Agartala. The experts while testing the stored sugar found that the sugar was stale and not on the condition to use. After internal inquiry and sample testing at laboratories it was ascertained that this sugar was three years old–2017.
“Later the officials conducted an initial level inquiry to understand as to where irregularities actually happened and it was found that the Guwatai based co-operative society that was awarded the tender sent expired sugar to Tripura. It was also analyzed that the cooperative society used 2020 sacks to send stale sugar that dated back to 2017”, said the SDPO.
The officials wasted no time and lodged an FIR against the society in the local police station. According to Das, investigation was underway to trace them.
