Two persons died in a road accident near Vetenary College at Bodhjung Nagar in Agartala on Tuesday. The deceased persons were identified as Rija Debbarma and Gaya Debbarma.
It is learnt Rija Debbarma was driving a bike and Gaya Debbarma was a pillion rider. As they reach near the Vetenary College, the bike had a head-on collision with an Echo car which was coming from opposite direction.
Biker Rija died on spot while the pillon rider Gaya Debbarma sustained serious injuries. Gaya was rushed to the GB Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. the driver of the Echo car managed to flee away after the accident.
Road accidents remain unabated even as the traffic department and transport department have launched Road safety programmes. Several mode of campaigns were launched to generate awareness among the people relating to road safety. It remains unknown as to how the bike had a direct collission and whether the car and the bike were in high speed.
It may be noted here that, despite lockdown strictions in 2020, as many as 192 persons died in road accidents in Tripura
Police arrest two for drug possession
Tripura Police tastes another success against drug and contraband dealers. On Tuesday, acting on a tip-off Police conducted a raid at house of Subrata Das and Arun Das in Jirania in West Tripura district.
During the search operation Police found 13.5 gm heroin and 30 yaba tablets.
Police seized both the contraband items and arrested both Subrata and Arun.
