Going beyond ‘Khulum Kha’, media body FDPMC has started a noble initiative of imparting basics of Kokbarok lesson among the selected non-Kokbarok speaking media persons of Tripura. A series of workshops will be held across the State to help the media persons in learning the language and first of the series of workshop for selected mediamen was held in Agartala on Sunday.
In an attempt to harness communication skills of non-Kokbarok speaking media persons, a workshop on ‘Preliminary lessons on Kokbarok language’ was held for selected media persons at Agartala Press club on Sunday. The workshop was organized by the Forum for Development and Protection of Media Community (FDPMC).
Speaking about the programme, general secretary of FDPMC Sebak Bhattacharjee said, “The linguistic pattern of the State is such that more than 30 per cent people speak in Kokbarok language. While most of the Kokbarok speaking persons can also speak Bengali, the vice versa does not hold good”.
In view of this, in the State level Conference of FDPMC, it was decided that special attempts should be taken to give non-Kokbarok speaking media persons a chance to learn Kokbarok.
“To this end, FDPMC has held the first of the series of workshops at the Press Club today”, Bhattacharjee said.
He also said, similar workshops would be held at Ambassa, Amarpur, Belonia, and Dharmanagar in February in which veteran photojournalist of the country Bablu Das will remain present.
Kokbarok language specialist Dr Nitai Acharjee and guest lecturer of Khumlwng College Prasenjit Debbarma conducted the workshop. During the workshop, resources persons – both Acharjee and Debbarma – lucidly explained the techniques of learning and speaking Kokbarok easily.
Apart from Sebak Bhattacharjee, FDPMC president Jayanta Bhattacharjee, editor of North East Sanjib Deb, senior journalist Sajjad Ali, secretary of Agartala Press club Pranab Sarkar along with other media persons were present in the workshop. A total of 42 media persons of print, web and electronic media attended the workshop. Enthusiasm and keen interests were observed among the media persons. Presence of new generation media persons made the workshop vibrant.
In his speech, Pranab Sarkar announced that a competition would be held for Kokbarok learners after 6 months in which toppers would be awarded.
