Tripura Chubalai Buthu, a non political, non-religious, socio cultural organization of Tripura community, one of the dominant indigenous communities of Tripura on Saturday placed their demand before the state government to approve the Tripura Customary Law Bill that was already passed by the TTAADC.
Addressing the press at Agartala Press Club, Ram Joy Debbarma, president of the Chabulai Buthu, said, “Since last one hand half years, Tripura customary Law Bill was pending for approval. The TTAADC had approved the Bill and forwarded it for the approval of the state government. But, unfortunately, due to some reasons the state government kept the Bill on hold”
“We demand the Bill to be approved for the sake of the Tripura community to protect the traditions of the community” said Debbarma. He said, leaders from his organization had earlier met the former secretary Tribal Welfare department, the Tribal Welfare Minister and also they raised the issue while they were invited for the Chief Minister’s meeting with community heads. But , unfortunately, he said, nothing in this regard is forthcoming.
The organization would hold mass rallies and deputations in four areas of the state that include Sabroom’s Satchand, Longtharai valley’s Chailengta, Gandacherra and Karbook to press for their demand. They would hand over their demand draft to the local SDMs addressing Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Ramjoy Debbarma also threatened that if their demands were not met as early as possible they would intensify protests.
