Maitri cycle rally of BSF that started from Panitar BOP in North 24-Parganas on January 10 reached Khowai on Wednesday evening. The rally will reach Agartala on Thursday.
The rally was kicked off as a mark of respect to first Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibar Rahman for his birth anniversary as well as strengthening Indo-Bangla relations. The rally covering a total of 4090 km along bordering roads of West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya and Mizoram will end at Silkori border in Mizoram on March 17 next coinciding with the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu.
The Cycle rally entered Tripura from Assam on Tuesday morning. The rally reached Peyarichhara BSF outpost at Dharmanagar yesterday. DIG of BSF Panisagar sector Rajiv Kumar Doa welcomed the rally. A programme was organized by BSF 166 Bn in which several BSF officials, school students and other dignitaries attended the programme.
Later the rally entered Unakoti district and reached Hirachhara outpost yesterday evening. BSF officials along with Additional DM Soumitra Chakma, schools students and local people greeted the participants of the cycle rally. The main programme was held at RKI School ground near Manu LCS and Zero-point to welcome the jawans in which two Officials of BGB were also present. School students of bordering areas presented a cultural programme and BSF Band personnel also took part in the cultural programmes. Jawans of BSF 20 bn organized the programme.
On Wednesday, participants of the rally paid tributes to Kargil martyrs at Kargil Corner near RGM Hospital in Kailashahar. Later, the rally proceeded to Kamalpur and Khowai. The rally reached Durganagar BSF camp in Khowai today evening. DIG of BSF 80 Bn Sushil Kumar, CO Happy Verma and other officials welcomed the cyclists. In the programme, BGB officials and jawans were also present.
DIG Sushil Kumar said, the rally aims at cementing Indo-Bangla relationship as well as paying tributes to Bangabandhu Mujibar Rahaman. Speaking on the occasion, BGB officials hailed the initiative.
