Road mishap is emerging as a major concern in Tripura. Even as administration is holding awareness campaigns urging drivers strictly to avoid rash driving, there seems to be very small takers and in most of the cases, high speed of vehicles and bike is causing the accidents. On February 18, as many as seven persons were injured in Tripura in separate incidents of road accidents.
An ambulance while returning after dropping patient at GB Hospital in Agartala met an accident at Pulin Pur along National Highway under Teliamura on Thursday morning. However, there is no report of any injury – and the driver of the ambulance fled away after the accident.
Local sources said, the ambulance was coming towards Teliamura after dropping a patient at GB Hospital in Agartala. Local people heard a loud sound and found the ambulance on a water body beside the National Highway. As the driver fled away from the spot, reason behind the mishap remained unknown. However, no one was found injured at the accident spot. Meanwhile, Police have started investigation.
Another accident occurred in Gomati district in the afternoon. A passenger bus met accident along the National Highway at Barobhaiya Hospital Choumuhani in Udaipur. In the mishap, at least five passengers were injured.
Sources said, soil loaded Tripper rammed the bus and as a result, the bus overturned and fell by the side of the road. In the impact, five passengers of the bus sustained injuries.
Fire personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the injured passengers and took them to hospital. It was alleged, the Tripper was running at a high speed. Bagma Police brought the Tripper to the Police station.
In another road mishap, one biker, Sujan Dey (23) of Chittamara was injured while coming towards Belonia in South Tripura today evening. The injured youth was sent to Udaipur district Hospital. Eyewitness alleged the biker was running at a high speed.
At Kalyanpur under Khowai in Tripura, one biker, Nirmal Pal, and one pedestrian Ajoy Pal were injured as Nirmal Pal with the bike hit Ajoy. While both of them sustained injuries, Nirmal was released from the hospital but Ajoy was undergoing treatment till the report filling.
