Agartala city has emerged as the best performer in the North East in term of Ease of Living Index- 2020.
As per the Ease of Living Index (EoLI), Agartala has ranked first in the North East and 11th in the country among the 62 cities in the category of less than one million population. Agartala’s overall score stands 55.20.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has shared the update on his social media handle and congratulated the citizens of Agartala on this achievement.
Notably, famous tourist city Shimla ranked the highest in less than one million population followed by Bhubaneswar, Silvassa, Kakinada, Salem, Vellore, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Davangere, and Tiruchirappalli while Bengaluru has emerged as the top performer among the cities with more than one million population in ease of living category.
According to a press note from Agartala Smart City Limited, in the first edition, 111 cities had participated and the rank of Agartala was 93. This is a huge improvement from last year’s performance which reflects the huge effort taken to improve the urban environment as well as the work done to develop the quality of life of the citizens of Agartala.
The EoLI report has special mention about the brilliant performance of Agartala amongst the North Eastern states.
In the sustainability pillar score rank list, Agartala has been featured in 6th position. In city resilience also, Agartala is one of the top 30 performers. In citizen perception score, Agartala has ranked 7th and in perception survey Agartala is in 5th position amongst all the 111 cities.
The Ease of living index (EoLI) is basically an assessment tool which evaluates the quality of life of the citizen of the city. It reflects the impacts of the various urban development initiatives taken by the Government.
The press release reads, There were various parameters based on which the judgment was made. The parameters had four pillars- Quality of Life, Economic Ability, Sustainability and Citizens perception survey. Further there were 13 categories and 49 indicators. These categories included health, education, housing, safety and security, Green spaces, environment, city resilience, energy etc. The framework includes Citizen’s Perception Survey and this represents the overall opinion of the citizens of the city.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday announced the release of the final rankings of EoLI, 2020 and the MPI 2020 here on Thursday in an online event.
