A girl child grabbed all the attention albeit in a heart-wrenching manner when others were engaged in celebrating the International Women’s Day.
It’s all about tale of a girl child who was abandoned by her mother and was left in custody of the helpless father when she was just one and half years old. Since then the girl was with her father. But trouble started after the mother of baby claimed her daughter’s custody.
On Monday, many of the eyes were firmly fixed at Belonia court to know about its judgment over ‘shelter’ of the girl child – Moumita Debnath.
Finally, putting an end to all speculations, the court passed its order giving a major relief to the helpless father- Mistu Debnath as the child was sent back to his custody. The order brought cheers, not only for the father, his little angel was also happy and relieved.
The court order might have disappointed some people specially the child’s mother Reshmi Debnath but has definitely set an instance before the society.
Reshmi, wife of Mistu, had left her girl child in her parent’s home at Baroj Colony area in Belonia and gone missing for some time. Mistu was then called by his father-in-law and detailed the incident. It was then that the girl child was taken by her father followed by an arbitration meeting, with signature on stamp paper.
In the meantime, Mistu came to know that his wife had started living with another person, resident of Satmura.
After the chain of events, the helpless father along with his daughter had shifted to his sister’s home at Ranir Bazar. The girl child, who continued to shed tears for breastfeeding, is now four-year-old.
In a recent episode, Mistu’s wife somehow realized the essence of motherhood and knocked the court’s door with an appeal to take Moumita in her custody. As per court order, Belonia Women Police in collaboration with Ranir Bazar police took the minor girl to court on Sunday morning.
The court in its preliminary order sent the minor girl to her mother. However, the final hearing and judgment was reserved for Monday.
But the father was pained by the court order and he broke into tears in the court premises. Though police tried hard to take Moumita from the lap of her father following the court order, she had totally disagreed to stay with her mother.
The teary-eyed Moumita repeatedly said, “I want to stay with my father.” And, the heart-wrenching scene was witnessed by many people present in the court.
After the final hearing, taking all aspects into consideration, the court has rejected Reshmi’s plea and ordered that the girl child would stay with her father.
The court order not only brought smiles to the father-daughter duo and many others but also taught a perfect lesson to the woman who had left the child when she needed her (mother) the most. Following the petition of Reshmi, the father-daughter duo had to spend sleepless nights with an uncertainty, however, in the end, it was a happy ending for the father and the daughter.
