Tripura Police arrested eight youths on Tuesday for gang raping two minor girls on Monday night.
In a shocking incident, two minor girls had been purportedly raped by eight youth at Khatiabari area under Khowai district of Tripura. While both the girls are under treatment for injuries, one of the victims sustained grievous injuries.
As per the available information, both the girls left home along with their friends to spend an evening but never returned. However, owing to prompt police action all the accused in the case had been arrested within a few hours of registration of the case in Champahour police station.
According to the available information, both the girls were picked up in motorcycles from home by two of their known friends for sightseeing on Monday evening. It was learnt from the parents that they were supposed to come back by 9 o’clock. Instead, their friends drove them to Khatiabari area where six more motorcycle bound youths joined them. All of them entered deep inside the forest in search of a quiet place. At around 7:30 pm the motorcycles stopped inside the jungle and the brutal assault on the girls began.
As per the police statement, both the girls were repeatedly raped and assaulted by the youth one by one. In enormous pain and agony the girls fell unconscious fearing which the predators left the spot. Later, both girls somehow managed to connect with their parents at around 1 am in the night. Upon receiving the information, the parents along with police rushed to the spot and rescued them. Both of them were moved to Khowai hospital in the first place. Following the doctor’s direction, one of the girls was referred to GBP hospital Agartala for better treatment. “Health condition of both girls was not good. But, one of them was very critical. The primary medical examination of both the girls had been done”, said the police.
Meanwhile, police succeeded to arrest all the accused within less than 24 hours. The police registered a case under IPC section 341/376 (D)/506 and 6 POSCO. All of them would be produced before the Court on Wednesday.
The names of the arrested persons are: Jaggu Debbarma (21), Bimal Debbarma (22), Mikel Debbarma (19), Rishita Debbarma (19), Bikash Debbarma (22), Nitesh Debbarma (21), Jewel Debbarma (19) and Biresh Debbarma (19). All of them hailed from Phultali area under the limits of Champahour police station. Police sources also revealed that the age of victim girls are 14 and 15 years respectively.
