The sensational Anwara Chowdhury death case that once had sparked off severe protests in Agartala city demanding arrest of the real culprits took a twist as the police relieved her maternal uncle Noor Muhammad from all the charges framed against him.

As per the preliminary investigation and, of course, in the wake of strong and noticeable public opinion over the case, Noor Muhammad was implicated as the prime accused in the case. But after prolonged investigation and trial, nothing substantial could be found against him. The police had already discharged Muhammad from all the liabilities of the case.

But, the story did not end here.

The Crime Branch took over the case and began to investigate the case from the first tip. As per the investigation, it was found that Anwara’s parents – her father and her step-mother – had intentionally tampered the evidence after her death. Framing charges against both of them, police submitted a fresh charge-sheet with the case.

Challenging the matter, Anwara’s father moved the High Court of Tripura and tried to prove flaws in the investigation. The High Court after going through all the evidence and investigation details ruled that the Crime Branch investigation was right. Subsequently, the Court disposed of the petition of Anwara’s father.

Trial based on the fresh charge sheet would begin on April 05 next in the first class magistrate Court no 01. Sources said, “this time Anwara’s uncle who was acquitted from the case would fight for the justice of his departed niece”.
