The BJP-led Tripura government has sanctioned Rs. 134 crore from the state budget for purchasing the COVID19 vaccine doses.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said this while addressing the people of the State in a video message on Saturday evening.

He also gave data on the achievement of vaccination so far and stressed on giving priority to the elders and healthcare staff, who have not been vaccinated yet, since there is no huge stock of doses.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced vaccination of 18+ people from May 01 next. But, we have to give priority to the elders and healthcare staff, who are yet to get the shot, since we don’t have a huge stock of Covid vaccine doses,” he said, adding that the vaccination of all would be done in a phased manner.

“The state government has sanctioned Rs. 134 from the state budget to purchase vaccine doses for the drive. The people will get the details very soon,” he said.

“Some big states like Karnataka, Delhi, West Bengal and Maharastra have been identified for providing vaccines at the first phase since these states are more affected and seeing comparatively more cases. The north-eastern states including Tripura are holding a good position due to mass awareness,” Deb said.

He appreciated the people of Tripura for following Covid norms and keeping the pandemic disease at bay.

In the video message, Deb acknowledged the proactive role played by the professionals and the political parties during the COVID19 pandemic one year ago. He also urged all to fight back the pandemic together this time as well.

The Chief Minister also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing free food grains to 80 crore BPL and Antodaya people for two months. He said a good number of people from Tripura would get the benefit.
