Two new airlines Go Air and Fly Big have shown their interests to operate flights from MBB Airport Agartala from the month of may. Inclusion of these new flights will increase the number of total scheduled flights to 19 from the existing 13, MBB Airport director Rajeev Kapoor said.
According to Kapoor, Air-India and Indigo are operating flights in Agartala already. The Go-Air airlines has already shared the schedule of flights connecting Agartala to Kolkata and bookings are underway. On the other hand, schedules for the Fly Big aircrafts are yet to come. “They will operate their flights within the NE states”, Kapoor said.
PM to be invited for new terminal inauguration
On being asked about the expected completion of the remaining works of the new terminal building, Kapoor said, “the new terminal building is standing at the doors of completion. The building is equipped with high tech appliances and it will be one of the best airports of the North East India. We will invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the project along with Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb”.
“The leftover construction works of the new terminal building was close to completion. Rs 48 crore had been spent in construction of the new Apron. This had enhanced the capability of the Airport to host 6 aircraft of Airbus 321 level altogether. There are also four aero-bridges that will help the passengers move directly from the terminal building to the aircraft and vice-versa”, he said.
Apart from that, he added, the capacity of passenger movement is also going to be increased as the new terminal building can house 1,200 passengers at one point of time which stands at 500 now. Thousand passengers will be for domestic flights and the rest of the two hundred passengers for international flights. Almost akin to the airports of metro cities, an inline baggage system will be also introduced here so that no one needs to put baggage on separate scanners, said Kapoor.
