Ganja worth Rs 50L seized, 2 arrested
Police recovered 800 kg dry ganja from a vehicle at Teliamura during routine checking on Monday. Police arrested the driver and co-driver of the vehicle. Sources said, Teliamura Traffic Police were conducting routine checking and stopped one vehicle for checking. The vehicle was coming towards Teliamura from Agartala. During scrutiny of papers of vehicle, Traffic Police personnel became suspicious and informed Traffic DSP Bikramjit Sukladas and SDPO of Teliamura Sonacharan Jamatia. The police force immediately reached the spot and conducted a search operation. During the search, Police recovered 800 kg dry ganja worth around Rs 50 lakh. Police arrested driver Dhirendra Kumar and his assistant Binod Yadav.
Husband jumps into river after killing wife to avert arrest
In a bizarre incident, a husband after killing his wife jumped onto river Gomati to escape the police. However, he was later fished out at West Shalgara area under Udaipur subdivision.
According to local sources, the couple Hakim Miah and Rushna Bibi (35) were not leading a good conjugal life. Quarrels between them were normal. On Monday, a heated altercation broke out between them and reportedly, in a fit of rage Miah attacked his wife. Her blood-soaked body was spotted by the locals when they gathered at their house followed by loud screams.
Soon the police were informed and the puzzled accused jumped onto the nearby flowing Gomati river to avert the arrest. He left all his clothes on the river bank. He was later arrested by the police after hours-long efforts.
Killed and buried case: Local Court asks Police to submit CD
A local Court directed Police to submit Case Diary (CD) in the murder case of Kartik Tenga who was killed and later buried in Khowai area recently.
One 55-year old person, Kartik Telenga went missing from the bordering village Krishnama Basti at Asharambari in Khowai on the day of the ADC poll – 6th April last. On April 21, family members registered a missing diary with the Champahaor Police station. Acting on secret information, Police found the body of Kartik Telenga buried near a pond half a kilometer away from the Basti. In this connection, the Police arrested five persons and produced them before the Court on Monday. Court-ordered Police to submit Case Diary (CD) within April 27 (Tuesday) and sent the accused five persons to one-day jail remand.
According to Police, Kartik died after being hit with Dau (machete) and stick at the residence of one Rabindra Telenga on the night of April 6 last. Later, the body of Kartik was buried near Surabhi Telenga water body. Police registered a case based on the complaint of the deceased person’s son and arrested five persons.
Meanwhile, locals alleged Kartik Telenga was practicing witchcraft for a long time and this reportedly angered villagers against Kartik.
