Deputy leader of Opposition and CPIM leader Badal Chowdhury alleged forceful intervention BJP supporters at Hrishyamukh block in South Tripura during submission of relevant documents by PMAY beneficiaries.
In a letter to the RD Department secretary, Chowdhury pointed out, “Recently, the Rural Development Ministry, Government of India has given additional sanction of PMAY from the beneficiaries selected on the basis of socio-economic Survey, 2011”.
He continued, “From the advertisements published by some BDOs and Urban bodies including Agartala Municipal Corporation, it is found that huge number of these beneficiaries remain untraceable for Geo-tagging and follow up process. The authorities directed the beneficiaries to submit their documents in support of their claim within 7 days of publication of the Advertisement.”
Chowdhury alleged local BJP activists raided the Block office while some of the beneficiaries of Hrishyamukh block area had submitted their necessary documents in the office of BDO and some others were waiting to submit to the concerned officials.
He further alleged, BJP supporters took away the documents already submitted by some PMAY beneficiaries. Also, they snatched away the documents from beneficiaries who were waiting to submit.
Pondering over the issue of large number of beneficiaries remained untraceable, Chowdhury alleged, “I got to know that, the ruling party leaders in Block and Rural bodies, have compelled the Geo-tagging surveyors to show such bigger number of untraceable beneficiaries in their survey report so that those vacancies would be substituted by themselves through nepotism or by grossly partisan away”.
In view of the emerging situation, he urged the RD Secretary to consider following points: “In no circumstances, the additional list of PMAY beneficiaries sanctioned by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India should be altered. Conduct a fresh Geo-tagging survey of the so called untraceable beneficiaries with wide canvassing about the survey in the concerned area prior to the date of survey in all Blocks and Urban Bodies areas. Extend the date for submission of documents till 15th July, 2021″.
