Ruling BJP’s ally IPFT is trying to tide over the present situation in the wake of the resignation of its MLA Brishaketu Debbarma from the Assembly membership. After a humiliating defeat in ADC polls where the Party drew a blank, Brishaketu’s resignation dealt a serious blow.
However, IPFT general secretary was candid to admit the loss of Brishaketu and trained guns on demand for Greater Tipra Land as raised by Tipra Motha.
After attending a Central Executive Committee meeting of Youth IPFT at Suparibagan in Agartala, Jamatia talked about IPFT’s stance Brishaketu’s resignation and Greater Tipra Land demand. He also highlighted the achievement of the BJP-IPFT government in the last three-and-half years.
Terming the resignation as unfortunate, IPFT general secretary Mever Kumar Jamatia informed the media that Brishketu’s resignation was not accepted.
Without much elaboration, Jamatia said that Brishaketu in his letter to the Speaker cited personal reasons as the reason behind his resignation. He, however, confessed that the Brishaketu’s resignation was unfortunate.
Jamatia came down heavily on the Greater Tipraland demand of Tipra Motha. He said, “There is no map of Greater Tipra Land and there is no hint about areas that will constitute Greater Tipraland”.
He also added, no Bill for Greater Tipra Land was passed, only a resolution was taken – and we are confused.
“In contrast, IPFT’s demand for Tipra Land is crystal clear and there is no ambiguity. We want Tipraland in the ADC Area”, Jamatia said.
Highlighting the activities of ruling BJP-IPFT for the welfare of indigenous people, Jamatia said, “We have passed several Bills on ADC to strengthen and empower it. We are also working to increase the existing 30-member ADC to 50-member Council. A total 16 departments are under ADC while we are demanding to give 42 departments”.
Besides, he also said the ruling BJP-IPFT government is committed to the improvement of education facilities and is working relentlessly in that direction. Jamatia said the ruling coalition is working to increase the number of Ekalabya schools to 20.
