The State unit of BJP OBC Morcha, on behalf of the people of the State and party hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies for holistic development of the OBC communities of the country.
Addressing a press conference in Agartala on Monday, State Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said, “We are grateful to the Prime Minister for his initiatives for the overall welfare of OBC people. Reservation of 27 percent for OBC students in All India Quota seats for MBBS and MD is one of the historic decisions of Modi-led Government”.
In this connection, Nath said, number of MBBS seats in the country has been increased by 56 percent while MD seats by 80 percent by Modi-led Government. Referring to reservation of seats in AGMC, the Minister said, there are 125 seats for MBBS in AGMC. Out of 125 seats, 19 seats are All India quota and 27 percent of this quota will be kept reserved for OBC students. Similarly, 27 percent seats out of 40 All India Quota in PG level course will be for OBC students – there are a total of 89 seats in PG level courses in AGMC.
Besides, he also mentioned that Modi-led Government set up National Commission for OBC by amending the Constitution – earlier, there was a statutory body for OBC. He opined OBC Commission will help the OBC people to address deprivations at social and educational sphere.
In this connection, Nath said, after Modi Government brought the Amendment Bill, opposition parties – CPM, Congress and TMC – opposed the amendment and their actual stance on OBC was exposed.
Highlighting several other initiatives of the Modi Government for overall development of the OBC people, Nath mentioned formation of Justice Rohin Commission which will benefit 4442 OBC communities in the country including 44 in Tripura.
Referring to recent expansion of Central Cabinet, Nath said, for the first time, as many as 27 OBCs were inducted in the 77-member Union Cabinet including one – Pratima Bhowmik – from our State.
The Minister also mentioned several steps initiated by Biplab Deb led Government. In this connection, he mentioned about issuance of 2,27,788 certificates to OBC people securing their identity. Besides, introduction of Dr BR Ambedkar Gold Medal Award for OBC students in which a gold medal along with Rs 25000 and a certificate was given to 42 students during last three years. He also talked in detail about State Government sponsored scheme to provide Rs 1 lakh assistance to eligible students in pursuing several courses.
“Apart from providing assistance to students, State Government is also steadily helping OBC people to become self reliant. The OBC Corporation of the State extended loans worth Rs 41 crore 28 lakh to total 2397 beneficiaries”, Nath said.
