Tripura Police arrested five Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters on Monday night in connection with August 7 political clash at Ambassa under Dhalai district. The arrested persons were produced before a local court and sent to judicial custody till August 16 next.

 

An FIR was lodged against 7 TMC workers after a political clash between two groups of supporters of BJP and TMC was reported from Ambassa. Based on the FIR, Police arrested five persons last night and kept them at a place in the Dhalai District Court premises – later, they were produced before the Court, police sources said and added that two of the total seven persons were absconding.   

 

The five arrested TMC workers were identified as Uttam Kalai, Tamal Bose, Pankaj Debnath, Mithun Biswas and Nitu Malakar.

 

They were charged and arrested by Ambassa police under sections 307/326/392/427/ 120(B) of IPC.

 

Meanwhile, in the wake of the arrests of the five TMC supporters, West Bengal TMC leader and Law minister Maloy Ghatok arrived in the state on Tuesday morning. He along with local TMC leader Subal Bhowmik reached Dhalai District Court. They also had interactions with members of the five persons’ families.

 

However, after hearing the case, the court sent the accused persons to judicial custody till August 16.

 

Later speaking to the media in the court complex, Ghatok alleged that the five youths were implicated in a false case.
