Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Agartala on a two-day visit on Friday. Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the Finance portfolio, Jishnu Dev Varma and Chief Secretary Kumar Alok welcomed her in the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.
This is Sitharaman’s maiden visit to Tripura since the formation of the BJP-IPFT government in March, 2018.
Later, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met her at the State Guest house and discussed the strategies for the holistic development of 37 lakh Tripura residents.
In tweet, Deb wrote, “This morning, we welcomed the honourable Union finance minister Smt. @nsitharamanJi. The honourable finance minister reviewed the progress of the external aided projects in the state and we discussed the strategies for the holistic development of 37 lakh Tripura residents”.
The Union Finance Minister attended a review meeting on Externally Aided Projects (EAPs). Taking part in the review meeting, Deb tweeted, “Attended the Externally Aided Project’s review meeting with FM Smt. @nsitharaman Ji Deputy CM @Jishnu_Devvarma & other officials were present on the occasion These EAPs are important for the holistic development of the state and the betterment of the livelihood of its citizens”.
Deb also pointed out, “FM @nsitharaman congratulates the state officials on the work done through EAPs for the holistic development of the state”.
Detailing about the EAPs, Office of the Union Finance Minister tweeted, “EAP include projects like Project for Sustainable Catchment Forest Management in Tripura (funding by JICA, Japan), Tripura Urban & Tourism Development Project (funding by Asian Development Bank), North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (funding by World Bank), etc. These EAPs are meant for overall development of the state cutting across areas like education, health, communication, infrastructure, power and other livelihood support.”
After the review meeting, Nirmala Sitharaman will inaugurate multiple projects worth Rs 189 crore at Mohanpur today on her first day of her 2-day visit.
According to official sources, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb will accompany the Union Finance Minister during the inauguration of various projects at Mohanpur. She will also visit the house of a Freedom Fighter at Badharghat on the same day.
On the next day, the Union Minister is scheduled to visit Matabari in Udaipur and take part in other programmes before leaving the state.
