As expected, Bharat Bandh on Monday turned out to have almost no impact as normal life in Tripura remained unaffected. The Bandh called by the Samyukt Kishan Morcha and supported in Tripura by the Leftists and Congress passed off peacefully in the State on Monday except a minor incident at Belonia where one CPM supporter was assaulted reportedly by ruling party activists.

The government offices, educational institutions, banks and private establishments remained open.

In Agartala, life was normal, as well. Shops, malls, markets, schools, colleges and all the government offices were open. Buses, autos and rickshaws were seen on roads as usual. Bus services from Chandrapur, Nagerjala and Radhanagar were normal. Rail and air services were also unaffected. Banking services were also as usual.

All Tripura Merchants’ Association General Secretary Sujit Roy told that thousands of their members did not participate in the strike and business remained unaffected.

BJP claimed the Bandh was a total failure as people completely rejected the shutdown. However, CPM claimed that people positively responded to the Bandh call and denounced the Modi-government’s policies and laws.

The Bandh was called in protest against three contentious Farm Laws which got the President’s nod one year ago. In Tripura several Left organizations and Congress supported the Bandh.

In sub-divisions also no impact of the Bandh was noticed. In Kalyanpur sub-division, almost everything including Markets, shops etc. was functioning like other normal days on Monday. Vehicles were available like every other normal day.

Jiban Debnath, Mandal president of Kalyanpur BJP unit said, “The Bandh called by Left parties was a total failure. Finding no other scope the left parties are playing politics through farmers.”
At Teliamura subdivision life was as usual during the shut-down call.  Business in the weekly Haatbar at Teliamura was normal, shops, schools, colleges, offices were remained open.

Vehicular services continued like other days. No untoward incident was reported. Strict security arrangements were made.

Secretary of CPM Teliamura Divisional Committee, Hemanta Kumar Jamatia said, “I appealed to people for making the Bandh successful. But keeping in the mind about current situation, party leaders and party workers did not opt for picketing in support of the Bandh.”

Only Sonamura town area was a bit different as most of the shops remained shut supporting the Bandh. However, Government offices, schools etc remained open. In the Sonamura sub-division, people did not respond to the shut-down. In other parts of the State, normal life remained unaffected due to the Bandh.
