Meanwhile, electoral data released by the Tripura State Election Commission (SEC) has revealed a significant trend: women outnumber men in 19 of the state’s 21 urban local bodies.

Total Women Voters Outnumber Men Voters

The SEC’s electoral demographic data highlights the growing numerical strength of female voters in Tripura’s urban electorate.

Of the 21 municipalities covered by the data, female electors form the majority in 19. This represents approximately 90.5% of the total urban local bodies.

Across all 21 municipalities, Tripura has 321,743 registered female voters against 308,115 male electors. Women therefore hold a numerical advantage of 13,628 voters.

The figures underline the importance of female voters in the upcoming civic elections. Their numerical majority extends across almost all urban local bodies, making them a significant component of the electorate.

Bishramganj and Melagarh Have More Male Voters

Only two urban local bodies – Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat and Melagarh Municipal Council – are where male electors outnumber female voters.

Bishramganj has 3,734 male voters against 3,582 female voters. The difference stands at 152.

Melagarh also records a male majority. It has 7,242 male electors compared to 7,016 female voters, giving men an advantage of 226.

In the remaining 19 municipalities, women constitute the majority of registered electors.

Agartala Has a Female Voter Lead of 7,594

Agartala Municipal Corporation, the largest urban local body in Tripura, also reflects the wider trend of female voter dominance.

According to the SEC data, Agartala has 185,070 registered female voters against 177,476 male electors. Women therefore outnumber men by 7,594.

The capital’s electoral figures represent a substantial share of the total urban electorate. The female majority in Agartala also reinforces the broader demographic pattern across the state’s municipalities.

Agartala Leads in Number of Constituencies

The SEC data also highlights the distribution of constituencies across the urban local bodies.

Agartala Municipal Corporation has the highest number, with 51 constituencies. Dharmanagar Municipal Council ranks second with 25 constituencies.

Udaipur Municipal Council follows closely with 23 constituencies.

The figures establish Agartala as the largest urban electoral body in terms of constituencies among the 21 municipalities.

Political Parties Prepare for November 27 Polls

The announcement of the election schedule has intensified political activity across the state.

The SEC has scheduled polling for November 27, while counting will take place on December 2. Political parties are currently working to finalise their candidate lists and prepare for the electoral contest.

The female-majority electorate across 19 municipalities adds an important demographic dimension to the elections. With women accounting for more than half of the registered urban voters, their participation will remain a significant feature of the electoral exercise.

Manik Saha Takes Dig at Opposition

Amid the preparations for the civic elections, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has criticised opposition parties, claiming that they have lost their political relevance in Tripura.

He said opposition parties currently have no significant presence in the state. According to the Chief Minister, they would become active for a few days ahead of the elections but return to their homes once the polls were over.

His remarks came as political parties stepped up their preparations for the November 27 contest.

CM Focuses on Civic Development

Alongside his political remarks, Dr Manik Saha outlined the government’s priorities for improving civic amenities in Agartala.

He stressed the need to accelerate urban development and strengthen essential public services. Better roads, improved drinking water supply and upgraded electricity services would receive special attention.

Dr Manik Saha said the Agartala Municipal Corporation must play a more active role in resolving residents’ everyday problems. The civic body should focus on improving urban infrastructure and ensuring better delivery of essential services.

He added that the government would undertake various development initiatives in the coming days to improve civic amenities and the quality of life of city residents.

With polling scheduled for November 27 and counting on December 2, all of the 21 urban local bodies are heading towards an important electoral contest with women holding a numerical majority in most municipalities.
