The Gandhi Jayanti was observed in Tripura with solemnity on Saturday. Several programmes were held across the State. Eminent personalities discussed vision and principles of Mahatma Gandhi.
The main programme was held at Gandhighat in Agartala where SC Welfare Minister Bhagaban Das hoisted the National Flag and offered floral tributes at Gandhi statue.
In the programme, SDM Sadar Asim Saha, Additional SDM Binoy Bhusan Das and other dignitaries were present.
Speaking to the media, Das said, Gandhi had a dream of building a Swachcha Bharat and developing the villages.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to materialize Gandhiji’s dream,” Das said. The programme was organized by the Sadar Subdivision administration.
The Minister also paid floral tributes to the bust of Gandhiji at Circuit House in Agartala.
The Information and Cultural Affairs department (ICA) also held a programme at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan to observe the Gandhi Jayanti today.
Besides, Tripura Pradesh Congress president Birajit Sinha and other leaders offered tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on this occasion at Congress Bhavan in Agartala.
Programmes were organized in all of the eight districts of Tripura.
The ICA of Tripura observed the 152nd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi in Dharmanagar on Saturday.
Among others, Bhabatosh Das, Sabhadhipati of North Tripura Zilla Parishad and Chandan Sarkar, Deputy Director of ICA department were present in the programme. On behalf of the department, food items were distributed among the inmates of an old age home.
Gandhi Jayanti was also held at Kalyanpur Congress office. The guests offered floral tribute to the statue of Gandhiji. At the beginning, Bikram Kishore Sinha, president of Khowai district Congress unit, hoisted the national Flag.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Navoday Sangha of Udaipur organized a blood donation camp.
MLA Biplab Kumar Ghosh inaugurated the programme in presence of Dilip Datta, secretary of Udaipur Press Club, and other dignitaries.
With the initiative of the BJP state unit, a discussion on Gandhiji’s life and philosophy was held at Rajarshi Kalakshetra in Udaipur.
BJP Tripura president Dr. Manik Saha and Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University- Dr. Satyadeo Poddar were present in the event.
A Leprosy Screening and Awareness programme was held at Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital under South Tripura district as part of the Gandhi Jayanti observance.
ICA department organized a programme to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandachhara Higher Secondary School. The programme was inaugurated by Aditya Sarkar, a social activist.
