One doctor assaulted another doctor after the latter denied signing an application seeking cancellation of the transfer order of the former doctor. The brawl occurred inside the Teliamura sub-divisional Hospital in Tripura on Tuesday.
It is learnt, a doctor of Kalyanpur Hospital Dr Shubhendu Shekhar Majumder assaulted the acting SDMO of the Teliamura Hospital Dr Anirban Bhowmik. As a result, Dr Bhowmik sustained injuries and he is undergoing treatment at GB Hospital in Agartala.
The Director of Health transferred Dr Shubhendu Shekhar Majumder to Khedachhara Hospital under Kanchanpur. After receiving the transfer order, Dr Majumder rushed to Teliamura Hospital and met acting SDMO Dr Bhowmik requesting the latter to sign over an application for cancel the transfer order. However, Dr Bhowmik said that he had no authority to sign on the application as he was an acting SDMO. However, Dr Majumder was in no mood to listen to Dr Bhowmik. After a heated argument, Dr Majumder pounced on Dr Bhowmik and started kicking, pushing and beating the latter amidst full public glare inside the Hospital.
“Dr Bhowmik was attacked in front of the female ward. Nurses and patients were present there and alarmed others who rescued Dr Bhowmik”, claimed one of the staff of the Hospital.
In the attack, Dr Bhowmik sustained injuries and he was shifted to Agartala GB Hospital with a broken hand. Meanwhile, Police arrested Dr Shubhendu Shekhar Majumder who is reportedly infamous for his rough behavior with people including patients.
In a late-night development, it was learnt that injured Dr Bhowmik will go to Chennai for better treatment.
