Leaders and supporters of breakaway Congress in Tripura formed a new political party under the banner of Tripura Democratic Front (TDF). Former president of State Youth Congress, Pujan Biswas has become the president of the newly formed party.
Mass exodus from the Tripura Pradesh Congress started after the AICC announced Birajit Sinha as the State Party president in place of Pijush Kanti Biswas. The depleted Congress party received further jolt as Piyush Kanti Biswas along with former MLA Tapas Dey and SC leader Tajen Das quit Congress – All the three are believed to the brain behind formation of a new party – TDF. The party flag of TDP is a white flying pigeon with a crown hanging over its skull on a deep green background.
At a press conference in Agartala, veteran Congress leader and ex-MLA Tapas Dey proposed the name of Pujan Biswas as the president of Tripura Democratic Front (TDF) – the supporters cheered and supported the proposal.
Speaking on the occasion, Tapas Dey explained the reasons behind quitting the party and floating a new party. He said AICC appointed a new chief for Tripura Pradesh Congress who miserably failed to steer Congress party during the 2018 Assembly Polls.
“Percentage of valid votes polled by Congress came down to below 2 percent and all but one forfeited deposits in 58 seats out of 60 seats in which Congress contested”, Dey said. He added, veteran leaders will guide and share experience to the youth leaders in the TDF.
Pijush Biswas also echoed the same and expressed dismay at the AICC decision.
The newly appointed president of TDF, Pujan Biswas said, “Together we will fight for the people of our land”.
On earlier occasion, after resigning from the post of YC state president, Pujan Biswas commented on Greater Tipraland raised by Tipra Motha. Even as confusion over the geographical boundary of the Greater Tipraland persists, Pujan Biswas said that it was a constitutionally plausible demand.
Many of the leaders and supporters of newly formed TDF are in good rapport with Tipra Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman.
With the Urban civic body polls are ensuing, TDF obtain tactical support from the Motha. According to many political analysts, with TMC is on one side and Motha on the other side, TDF is eyeing to put the final nail on the coffin of Congress in Tripura.
