The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a nation-wide protest on Sunday against the attack on ABVP activist, Shivaji Sengupta at Kailashahar in Tripura on Friday last.
As part of the national protest programme, students from different colleges in Agartala also staged a huge rally on Sunday to protest the incident and demand the arrest of the culprits.
ABVP leaders in Agartala vented anguish at alleged Police inaction as no one was arrested, so far, even as a specific complaint against the persons involved was lodged with the Kailashahar Police on Friday after the attack.
Expressing serious concern over the alleged police inaction, ABVP State leaders demanded immediate arrests of the persons involved in stabbing Shivaji Sengupta.
The incident took place on Friday last after ABVP activist, Shivraj Sengupta was gheraoed by some persons and was stabbed from behind. The incident occurred outside R K Institution and near the Police station in Kailasahar. Injured Sengupta revealed the names of persons who attacked him. Earlier, on the same day, some miscreants broke the bamboo made boundary of a Kali Temple at Kaxmipur Panchayat in Kailashahar. Both the incident – stabbing and damage in Kali Temple – triggered massive resentment and tension following administration clamped Section 144.
The ABVP state unit in its press communique said that that ABVP National General Secretary Nidhi Tripathi expressed deep concern over the incident in Kailashahar and said, “We are all shocked at the Tripura incident. Attempts to intimidate us with such attacks will never succeed.”
It stated, “Every ABVP worker is always by the side of the injured worker like family and is always committed to stand against people with such anti-national mentality.”
