The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Left Front – the CPM candidates have locked horns in a direct contest at 9-ward Sabroom Nagar Panchayat polls. Both Congress and Trinamool Congress failed to submit nomination citing intimidation and ‘vigilance’ by ruling BJP supporters.
The political circle in Sabroom is abuzz with as to what roles the Congress and Trinamool Congress would play in the run up to the Polls scheduled on November 25 next – whom will they vote for?
As the Civic Body poll processes started, Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters expected that their parties would contest in the polls. However, that did not happen, but the moot question is whom they will vote for in November 25 polls.
Leaders of Congress and TMC seem to be puzzled with the same question. At the national level, CPM and Congress are talking about a unified fight against BJP – so will Congress supporters vote for CPM candidates in Sabroom Nagar Panchayat?
In a press meet in Agartala in recent times, Kolkata based TMC leaders appealed to CPM to go with TMC for saving the ‘Red Flag’. With not in the fray in Sabroom, will TMC help CPM to save the ‘Red Flag’?
Neither any Congress nor any TMC leaders hinted at any possible ‘co-operation’ or ‘understanding’ with any party in Sabroom Civic polls. Congress leader Sankar Malla said that he would prefer Congress supporters to cast their votes on NOTA whereas sources in TMC also hinted at similar strategy.
The common things between the Congress and TMC are that both claimed that they had good support bases, but none of their supporters dared to come forward and submit nominations in the face of hostile political situation created by the BJP supporters.
Congress leader Sankar Malla and TMC leader Premtosh Debnath echoed in the same tune.
Meanwhile, Contesting candidates of BJP and CPM are going whole hog to convert the negative votes into positives in favour of respective parties.
Local BJP MLA Sankar Roy along with all wings of BJP are engaged in hectic campaigning, the Opposition CPM leaders and its various wings are also trying their best to reach every voter while the supporters of Congress and TMC are watching the proceedings silently.
