After nomination withdrawal ended for the upcoming Civic Body Polls in Tripura, BJP has won one more Municipal Council uncontested.

 

In the 15-ward Santirbazar Municipal Council Polls in South District, BJP nominated candidates have won uncontested after six rebel candidates of the party have withdrawn their nominations on the last day of withdrawal. No other parties submitted nominations for the MC polls in Santirbazar.

 

Venting anger at the candidate selection, a group of BJP supporters decided to contest the Santirbazar MC Polls and fielded candidates in 6 wards. However, after the intervention of the State leaders, they decided to withdraw nomination allowing BJP to win the polls uncontested.

 

Earlier, BJP candidates won five Civic Bodies without contest and with Santirbazar, the number has gone up to six Civic bodies in favour of BJP out of the total 20 Civic Bodies.    

 

Monday (November 8, 2021) was the last day of withdrawal of nominations. Candidates of several parties, except BJP nominated candidates, withdrew nominations today.

 

After the withdrawal process, as many as 785 candidates of various political parties remain in fray for the forthcoming Local Body Polls scheduled to be held on November 25 next.

 

The figure included 334 BJP candidates, 197 CPI(M) candidates, 120 TMC, six CPI, 92 Congress, two RSP, three AIFB, 21 others and 10 Independent candidates.

 

There are total 334 seats in 51-seat Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), 19 Municipal Councils and six Nagar Panchayats across the state.

 

According to the State Election Commission report, total 36 candidates – 15 CPM, 4 TMC, 8 Congress, two AIFB and seven Independent candidates – had withdrawn nominations on Monday. 

 

In Agartala Municipal Corporation, 8 candidates– four CPI(M), two Congress, one AIFB and one Independent– had withdrawn candidatures.
