Congress workers led by Party’s state chief Birajit Sinha gheraoed the Kailashahar Police Station demanding actions against the miscreants who were damaging the campaign materials of the Party.

Tripura Pradesh Congress chief Birajit Sinha and Unakoti District Congress president Md Badrujjaman along with the Congress workers also blocked the road in protest.

Sinha alleged BJP backed goons are damaging campaign tools like flags, festoons etc of Congress-nominated candidates at night.

“Almost every day Congress candidates of different wards are filing complaints to the Police highlighting acts of BJP goons. However, Police are taking no initiative against the perpetrators”, Sinha alleged.

In view of the ‘Police inaction’, Congress workers gheraoed the Kailashahar Police Station and the adjoining road, Md Badrujjaman said.

He warned, “If BJP goons damage campaign tools of Congress tonight, we will retaliate and damage their campaign tools too”.

Meanwhile, Birajit Sinha also visited the house of a Congress candidate at Dharmanagar on Saturday. Speaking to the media, Sinha condemned the attack in the house of Manasi Malakar, the Congress candidate of Ward 1 for Civic Body Polls. He alleged BJP is trying to destroy the democratic norms and is unleashing violence.

Attacking the house of an opposition candidate is barbaric. Police must take action. Congress strongly condemns the incident – the attack is actually an attack on democracy, Sinha said.

Similar allegations were raised by CPM at Kailashahar and party activists pointed fingers at the ruling BJP for creating impediments like destroying campaign materials. The leftist also demand actions against the miscreants involved in trouble-making.
