As the availability of electricity is an essential input for successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, a decision has been taken for installation of 181 transformers in next one month for providing electricity to the areas in Tripura where the facility is not available.

 

 

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting between the Power department and Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) department on Tuesday.

 

Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma chaired the meeting in presence of DWS minister Sushanta Chowdhury. Dev Varma accorded importance on ensuring water supply in villages under the Aspirational Blocks.  

 

As decided in the joint meeting, an initiative will be made for installation of 181 transformers in next one month and electricity connections will be arranged to make 722 small bore tube-wells of DWS department functional.

 

According to a government press release, the Power department has already been paid for the tasks. Once the plans get executed, it will help to provide as many as 30,000 water connections in the State.

 

Apart from ensuring electricity supply, other joint initiatives have been taken for a smooth and speedy implementation of the Mission.

 

The meeting, the release said, stressed on coordination between the two departments for timely implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission. Besides, a team comprising engineers from both the departments has also been formed.

 

In the meeting, Chief Engineer of DWS department- Rajib Debbarma discussed the implementation status of the scheme. Secretary of Power department Brijesh Pandey and Managing Director of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL)- Dr. M.S. Kele remained present.
