Attack on Judiciary: 3 Left leaders jailed in Tripura
A court in Belonia on Thursday sentenced three left leaders- Tapas Dutta, Trilokesh Sinha and Babul Debnath to simple imprisonment for two years on the charge of attacking the judiciary during a bandh in September, 2015.
The court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Mitra Das awarded two-year simple imprisonment to the convicts for the offence under section 353 read with Section 34 of IPC.
Besides, the court also jailed them for two months and fined Rs. 500 each; in default of payment, they have to suffer in jail for another ten days for the offence under section 447 and read with Section 34 of IPC.
On September 2, 2015, there was a 24-hour countrywide Bandh sponsored by the Left parties during which the Belonia Court was functioning as usual. But, some of the bandh picketers including the three Left leaders had entered the Court complex of the District and Sessions Judge, Belonia and misbehaved with the Judge and other court staff. They had also obstructed the court’s functioning.

Newly elected multiparty councillors of Ambassa Municipal Council were sworn in on Thursday. Among the 15 seats, BJP candidates have won 12 seats while TMC, CPI-M and TIPRA Motha bagged one seat each.
Mamata Das and Gopal Sutradhar elected as chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively followed by a meeting of the elected members.
All newly elected members of Kumarghat Municipal Council were sworn in on Thursday. Biswajit Das took oath for the office of Chairperson and Panab Pal as Vice-Chairperson of the council.
All 13 newly elected councillors of Amarpur Nagar Panchayat took oath of office at Anandara Auditorium in Amarpur Sub-division on Thursday. Bikash Sahasworn in as chairman while Bina Rani Pal as vice-chairperson.
All newly elected members of Belonia Municipal Council were sworn in on Thursday. Chairperson took oath as Nikhil Chandra Gope and Sikha Nath as the Vice chairperson.
Newly elected members of Teliamura Municipal Council took oath of office at Teliamura Town-hall on Thursday. Rupak Sarkar and Madhusudhan Roy were elected as Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson respectively.
